UGA football fans wear pink to honor opposing team's Coach's late wife

On a normal Saturday at University of Georgia’s Sanford Stadium, it would be flooded with fans wearing Red and Black to show support of their Bulldogs, but this Saturday, when the Bulldogs take on Arkansas State at home, they are asking fans to wear PINK.

On August 19, 2019, Arkansas State’s head coach Blake Anderson, lost his wife, Wendy, following a two-year battle with breast cancer. She was just 49-years-old. The Bulldog nation is calling for a PINK OUT at Saturday’s game to show support for Anderson.

The campaign started when a few fans heard the sad news and tweeted the idea for Bulldog fans to wear pink to show respect and support for Anderson.

University of Georgia alum Dwight Standridge, the fundraising chairman for Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer, saw the tweets and retweeted them through the organization which lit a social media campaign with the hashtag #WearPinkForWendy.

Coach Anderson even saw the tweets and retweeted it saying “Beyond grateful... thank you “

Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity founded by Jay and Teresa Abbott of Douglasville, Georgia. The Abbott’s son, Chris, played football for Georgia 2004-06, when Teresa was diagnosed with breast cancer. After Teresa’s clean bill of health, the entire Abbott family decided they wanted to do something to help fight Breast Cancer. With the help of then UGA Football Coach Mark Richt and the UGA Football Team, the Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer Charity Golf Tournament was created, and Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer was born. The organization has since donated approximately $750,000 to the fight against Breast Cancersince it was founded in 2004.
