Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James has reportedly been assigned to the team's NBA G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania on Thursday (November 7).

"The Lakers today assigned Bronny James to their NBA G League affiliate, South Bay, where he’s expected to debut vs. Salt Lake City on Saturday, sources said. James will be on Lakers roster vs. 76ers Friday, then rejoin South Bay," Charania wrote on his X account. "For now, sources said, the G League plan is for Bronny James to play in only South Bay home games – as he shuttles between both leagues and team manages his time on respective rosters."

James, 20, the son of teammate LeBron James, is averaging 1.0 point, 0.5 assists and 0.3 rebounds through his first four games. Bronny and LeBron became the first father-son duo to share the court in an NBA regular season game during their team's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 22.

Bronny had a strong showing in the pre-draft process recently, despite averaging just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists during his lone collegiate season at USC, which was delayed after he suffered cardiac arrest in January. The 20-year-old rated as a five-star prospect and ranked as the No. 5 combo guard, No. 4 player from the state of California and No. 22 overall prospect for the 2023 national recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
